When the trial of 62-year-old Randolph Tahal, who is accused of murdering his wife, continued in the Berbice High Court, the doctor that conducted the post mortem examination was called to the witness stand.
Tahal is on trial before Justice Brassington Reynolds and a mixed jury for the murder of his wife, Janet Tahal. He allegedly killed the woman between September 17 and September 19, 2017, at their Lot 95 Smythfield, New Amsterdam, Berbice home.
Attorney-at-law Seeta Bishundial is presenting the state’s case.
The accused, a former driver, is being represented by state appointed attorney Siand Dhurjon.
Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan took to the witness and was led in his evidence by State Prosecutor Bishundial. He gave the cause of death as a result of perforation of the lungs, compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
He was subsequently cross-examined by defence attorney Dhurjon.
Giving evidence earlier was Police Crime Scene Detective Inspector Curtis Cort. He visited the premises during his investigation. There were two cars in the yard PFF 3024 and PEE 6921. Among the things he noticed in the yard was a blood stained pillow case in one of the cars.
A blood stained pillow and a piece of wood with what appears to be blood on it were also found. Further, there was the presence of what appears to be blood, which was found inside the house.
Also testifying were Police Detective Corporal Roland Beharry and Lance Corporal Emanuel Davidson, Police Constable Lorna Grant who is stationed at the Alberttown Police Station and attached to the Georgetown Hospital Outpost.
She arrested the accused at the Accident and Emergency Department at the Georgetown Hospital, daughter of the accused and the deceased, Jennifer Khan, a neighbour, Colin Wilson, who was with the couple during the day. They were said to be drinking.
