Secondary Schools on the East Coast of Demerara will compete in a 5 miles Road relay race on Saturday 30th November starting at 6:00am.
The race will be run from Unity, Mahaica Gas Station to Victoria Gas Station on the East Coast of Demerara. According to Coordinator of the event Ras Aaron Blackman schools expected to participate are Blygeval Multilateral School, Ann’s Grove Community High School, Hope Secondary School, President College, Golden Grove Secondary, Bladen Hall Secondary School, Annandale Secondary School, Plaisance Secondary and Cummings Lodge Secondary School.
The schools’ athletic season has just concluded and according to Ras Aaron Blackman the athletes will be prepared to cover the middle distances and represent their schools well.
The event is planned in conjunction with the Victoria Village Day Committee to coincide with the 180th Anniversary of the purchase of Plantation Northbrook that was renamed Victoria Village.
The race will be run in six legs, with one female and 5 male athletes, the female athletes will be the ones starting the event and will cover a distance of about 800 metres.
Trophies and medals have been donated by Regional Administration of Region 4, Department of Culture, Grove Haslington NDC, Burrowes School of Art and the National Sports Commission.
Athletes must assemble at the Victoria Gas Station to be transported to their start points or legs along the route.
