Regal Masters registered a narrow one run victory over Wellman Masters to win the inaugural Trophy Stall Champion of Champions T20 softball competition which was contested Sunday at GNIC SC.
Batting first, Wellman Masters posted 151-9 with opener Surajdeo Ramdeen leading the batting, scoring 39. Ramdeen and Lloyd Ruplall added 25 for the opening stand before Ruplall was removed by David Harper for 12 while Ramdeen was taken off Eric Thomas for 39 which included three fours and two sixes. Rawl Reid struck three fours and three sixes in a rapid 38 while Wayne Jones and Troy Lewis chipped in with 20 and 19 respectively. Harper captured 3-19 while Unnis Yusuf and Thomas picked up two wickets each.
Yusuf and Mahase Chunilall provided Regal Masters with a solid start as they put on 53 for the first wicket before Chunilall was run out for 16. Yusuf and Eon Abel then took the score to 83; the right-handed Yusuf slammed eight sixes in a top score of 60 while Abel made seven. However, following their separation, Regal Masters lost some quick wickets to be at 105-5 before Thomas and Rudolph Baker (09) added 30 for the sixth wicket; Thomas made 26 one four and three sixes. Wellman Masters then brought themselves back into the contest with a few quick wickets as Regal Masters plunged to 146-9, but Mohendra Arjune (04*) and Laurie Singh saw (00*) saw them home as they finished on 152-9 in 17 overs. Sheldon Perch and Samlall had two wickets each. Yusuf was named man-of-the-match.
Wellman Masters defeated Success Masters by 38 runs in another fixture which followed. Wellman Masters took first strike and posted 180-4 with Surajdeo Ramdeen scoring a fine century and was ably supported by Wayne Jones. Ramdeen struck three fours and eight sixes in his unbeaten 105 while Jones made 34 not out with two fours and two sixes. The duo added 63 for the fifth-wicket to prop up the total.
Success Masters were bowled out for 132 in 18 overs in reply. Vishnu Baljit made scored 58 as Laurie Singh picked up three wickets and Nandram Samlall two. (Zaheer Mohamed)
