The Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) has named the teams that will be participating in the Annual Balram Shane Inter Club volleyball competition set for today at the Albion Community Center hard court.
The teams set to participate are defending champions Port Mourant Training center (PMTC), Guysuco Training Center Port Mourant (GTCPM), Rollers Of New Amsterdam, Skeldon, Black Bush Polder, No55 and No52. Starting time is 10:00 hrs.
The volleyball competition will be played alongside the annual Balram Shane challenge 50 over cricket match that is played between arch rivals Albion Community Center and Port Mourant cricket Club at the Albion Community Center.
The games are being sponsored by popular Rose Hall Town businessman Deonarine Balram of the Balram Shane General Store. The cricket match is in its 20th year, while the volleyball competition is in its seventh year. Port Mourant Training Center (PMTC) are the defending volleyball champions and would have won it on five occasions. Albion Community center are the defending cricket champion. The cricket match will commence at 09:30 hrs.
The top teams and outstanding individual players will be presented with trophies and cash incentives by the sponsor and his family who will be on hand to bowl the first ball in the cricket and do the first serve in the volleyball competition.
The winning teams will receive the Balram Shane Memorial trophy and over $100,000 and other incentives, while the losing team will be also adequately rewarded. A number of individual awards will be up for grabs in both competitions.
Cricket will include man of the match, best bowler and best batsman, best fielder among others. In volleyball there will be prizes for best spiker, best receiver, best blocker, best server among others.
The day’s competitions are being played in memory of Balram’s father, Balram Shane, who was a former cricketer, community activists and sports enthusiast. Starting time is 09:30 hrs.
