Paradise dismantled Victoria 3-1, while Ann’s Grove edged Melanie when the inaugural ‘592 Beer Inter-Village Football Festival’ continued on Friday at the Golden Grove Community Center ground.
Trevon Dainty broke the deadlock in favor of Paradise in the 32nd minute, placing his effort into the lower left corner from inside the right of the penalty area.
The second goal for Paradise occurred in the 56th minute as Teshawn Gordon scored from the penalty mark, calmly slotting his effort into the lower left corner.
The game was out to bed in the 65th minute, with Teon Stewart making his presence known with a shot from the left of the box into the lower right side of the net.
Victoria eventually pulled one back in the 70th minute as Sherwin Skeete fired a powerful shot from inside the penalty box into the right side of the goal.
Meanwhile, Ann’s Grove edged Melanie 1-0. Kevon Barry scored in the 55th minute, stabbing into the back of the net following a goal mouth scramble.
Action continues today at the same venue. At 19:00hrs, Plaisance will lock horns with Mahaica while the feature match will pit Golden Grove against BV from 21:00hrs.
The event features 12 teams battling in an initial group format. Group-A comprises Buxton, Plaisance and Mahaica, with group-B consisting of Friendship, Paradise and Victoria and group-C featuring Brush Dam, Melanie and Ann’s Grove.
Group-D contains Annandale, Golden Grove and Beterverwagting [BV]. The winner of each group will advance to the semi-final round. The grand finale is pegged for December 14th.
Winner of the event will pocket $300,000 and the championship trophy, with the second, third and fourth place finisher collecting $150,000, $100,000 and $75,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
Individual prizes will also be awarded for the Most Valuable Player [MVP] and the Best Goalkeeper.
Among the other sponsors of the event include Bakewell Guyana Incorporated and the Colin Talbot Construction Services.
