GTT’s Senior Marketing Executive, Tashandra Inniss (L) makes a presentation to Representative of Artistes in Direct Support, Sidney Benjamin
Yesterday at GTT’s 79 Brickdam office, Senior Marketing Executive of GTT, Tashandra Inniss presented Representative of Artistes in Direct Support, Sidney Benjamin with donations to be used as prizes. The non-profit, community-based, HIV/ Aids-focused organization received GTT umbrellas, GTT bottles, mobile handsets, GTT mini speakers and GTT mobile credit. These prizes will be distributed during the candlelight vigil to lucky patrons.
During the handover, Inniss highlighted the importance of raising awareness and knowing one’s status. She said, “It is because of organizations such as Artistes in Direct Support that education and awareness around HIV/ Aids has increased in Guyana.” She noted that GTT is honoured to give support, as it would help to bring more awareness and encourage safer sex practices through the utilization of the arts.
Echoing similar sentiments was CEO, Justin Nedd who indicated that one of GTT’s goals is to create a company known for its contribution to the wellness and prosperity of Guyana. “In order for there to be productivity in any organization there needs to be energized, passionate and healthy employees; any venture that supports health and wellness in Guyana, GTT is proud to be a part of,” said Nedd.
Executive Director of Artistes in Direct Support, Desiree Edghill said that the success of the vigil can be linked to the continued support which she receives from organisations such as GTT. “We are grateful to GTT for their continued support to our organisation as we continue to educate the public on HIV/AIDS. Let us continue to work together, while “Getting to “Zero”. Zero new HIV Infections, Zero Aids Related Deaths and Zero Stigma & Discrimination,” Edghill emphasised.
Edghill said the observance is aimed at recognising those who have died of Aids and those living with HIV. “Our members give their talent, free of charge, because we want to ensure the messages are received by our patrons, especially the underprivileged, without any cost to them. This is also our way of giving back to the community for their support of us during the year,” she added.
For the past 26 years, Artistes in Direct Support has pulled off successful World Aids Day observances under the theme “The Flame and the Ribbon”.
