During a forum with representatives of the Private Sector Commission (PSC) on Friday; themed “Preparing Guyanese businesses to meet demand of the oil and gas industry”, Dr. Mark Bynoe stated that in keeping with preparations to move steadily apace for first oil, Guyana needs to change the way business is done to be able to extract maximum value from this resource.
However he did not mention what those strategies were.
Since we’re in Pre-school that is, having little or no knowledge about the oil and gas industry.
He further stated it is essential to have a full appreciation of what the emergent sector will bring to prepare research and share information so that the nation is not left behind as it enters this very complex global industry.
Guyana cannot continue to do business in a manner as though we are operating in the 19th or 20th century, we are entering a very challenging time and it is essential that we also be cognisant of what these challenges are.
The partnerships between Government and the private sectors are vital which has to be founded on mutual respect and continuous engagement.
Present were Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana, Lilian Chatterjee; PSC Chairman Ramesh Dookoo; GAICO Construction and General Services, General Director, Komal Singh; CGX Energy Incorporated, Executive Director, Professor Suresh Narine; representatives of Totaltec Oilfield Services and other oil and gas companies.
