Dear editor,
Permit me to a space in your daily news to express my disgust over an occurrence that is being prolonged at the Mayor and City Council.
I was appalled to see the Chief Constable of the City Constabulary present amongst the heads of services of the Joint Service of Guyana at the Remembrance Day parade on Sunday, November 10, 2019.
About two months ago, our elected representatives at the Georgetown City Council successfully moved a motion of no-confidence against the Chief Constable, which were debated and at the conclusion it was carried with a majority vote which included from councillors of the Peoples Progressive Party.
That side signalled that the motion, while tabled and seconded by councillors of A Partnership for National Unity, benefited from the opposition during their debate and with their votes.
This to my mind speaks volume of a council which one can concludes is ready to work together for the better of the City of Georgetown and its people, led by the Mayor, Ubraj Narine.
Our elected Mayor and councillors are being frustrated in their efforts to managing this city with a team of officers who are prepared to give professional service and making corruption something of the past.
I am of the view with the procrastination of the Local Government Commission has created the environment for this embattled officer to be squatting in the office of the Chief Constable instead of being on administrative leave awaiting a hearing and determination of this motion which was tabled and carried by a duly constituted statutory meeting.
Garfield Boston.
