Dear Editor,
For decades, elections in Guyana were rigged. That is notorious.
(Former President Forbes) Burnham’s dictatorial rule was discriminatory, oppressive and caused economic ruination.
People fled in droves. Half of all Guyanese now live abroad. The value of the Guyanese dollar is less than half of one US cent.
The country is plagued with crime, domestic violence and corruption – among other ills.
I believe that there is one man who can turn this around. His name is Irfaan Ali. Dr. Ali is a human dynamo.
There are mischievous murmurings going around, to the effect that Hindu PPP supporters are unhappy with a Muslim Presidential candidate and, as such, many of them will withhold their votes.
This is a lie that paints Guyanese Hindus as narrow-minded bigots. Did not Guyanese Muslims willingly support Hindu PPP leaders for decades? Why would Hindus not return the favour? Guyanese Hindus are not fools. They know where their best interests lie.
Burnham’s disciple has now been in power for over four years. We can all see the results: racially skewed appointments, sugar estates closed and thousands of sugar workers made jobless and destitute, our foreign currency reserves severely depleted, expanded and excessive taxation, corruption, wanton spending, giving away of our oil resources and land, flagrant and continuing violations of our constitution and the CCJ’s ruling.
Imagine another five years of that.
Dr. Irfaan Ali is unstoppable.
“President” is written on his forehead. Detractors say that, should he get in, he will thief.
He will do no such thing. What he will do is work day and night for the good of the country and for all Guyanese.
Guyana needs an inclusive, fair minded and energetic leader with drive, vision and a tireless capacity for hard work.
Dr. Ali fits the bill and he will be elected Guyana’s next President, in spite of the nefarious PNC machinations.
