Medical Practitioner Dr. Carl Alton Hanoman passed away on Wednesday at a private city hospital after suffering from a brief illness.
Hanoman was known throughout Guyana for his many contributions to society.
Born and raised in New Amsterdam, Hanoman was the last of ten children. Despite his fear of doctors, he grew up with a love for the very profession.
Dr. Hanoman was instrumental in putting measures in place for the University of Guyana to receive accreditation from the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education and in Medicine and other health Professions (CAAM-HP) in 2009.
He previously served as the Chairman of the Georgetown Public Hospital Board and worked towards revamping the institution so that its operation was nothing less than efficient.
In a statement, President David Granger said, “Undoubtedly, Dr. Hanoman would have served his profession and fellow Guyanese with distinction. It is for this reason that he was conferred with the Cacique Crown of Honour in 2016 for his long, dedicated and outstanding work in the medical field”.
Other friends of the physician took to social media to express their heartfelt condolences on his passing including former Health Minister Frank Anthony and former Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon.
