The round-robin stage of the sixth annual Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) Junior Indoor Hockey Championships hit off last night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on Carifesta Avenue where Saints Hockey Club (SHC) and GBTI GCC registered victories in the opening matches of the Farfan & Mendes under-16 league.

GBTI GCC Spartans slapped YMCA Old Fort 10-0 in the first girls division match with Abosaide Cadagon swatting four goals (three FG and one PC) while Madison Fernandes and Haley Carpenter assisted two each in the rout.
In the following match, SHC Supreme beat SHC Sensations 2-1 in the girls’ division. Charlia Webb and Mariah Seegobind netted one each for the winners while Dharanee Meghoo scored for Sensations.
The first Farfan & Mendes boys’ division clash witnessed SHC Silencers hushing GCC War Dogs 3-1. Baraka Garnett smashed home two penalty corners (PC) after Nikhuma Hutson had opened the scoring for the victors. Jonathan Bissoon scored the consolation for the War Dogs.
The championships continue today up until Sunday with matches from the under-10 to under-21 categories.
