Unknown persons of Adventure, Essequibo Coast on Monday evening reportedly torched a car moments after it was involved in a hit-and-run
accident on the public road. The victim was identified as 43-year-old Vidur Anauge, a labourer of Onderneeming Sand Pitt Essequibo Coast.
According to information reaching Kaieteur News, the man was returning from wedding celebrations around 9pm when he was struck.
It was revealed that the motorcar PXX 7706 was travelling north on the Adventure Public Road, allegedly at a fast pace.
Anauge was on his bicycle in the same lane when he was hit by the car and flung high in the air before landing on the parapet.
The labourer was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He reportedly sustained severe head injuries.
The driver immediately fled the scene after the accident. He later turned himself in at the Suddie Police Station on Tuesday at 5:30am.
Meanwhile, according to sources, residents are claiming that the family of the now dead man torched the car in retaliation. The car was completely destroyed in the blaze.
However, family members refuted the claim. They contended that the car ‘burst into flames shortly after the incident’.
In January, Anague’s 19-year-old son met his demise in a similar fashion.
Investigations are on-going.
