DEAR EDITOR,
It is interesting to note and survey the many professionals who have made impacting statements for or against cash transfer to the poor from the coming oil wealth. Editor, political meanderings and grandiloquence in itself, does not provide guidance and direction for future ventures such as these. Many of these somehow have been spelt out within our dailies; only to speculate according to various individual opinions on the demographics and dynamics of a cash transfer society with an objective of supporting the less fortunate rather than the poor. For as long as life continues on this planet, be it London, New York or the Caribbean, we will always have the poor with us.
We have always had transference of wealth for as long as civilisation existed.
Editor, there is nothing new under the sun, regardless of how we look at life, the grand scheme of life’s situation in the light of distribution of wealth happens every day.
The thoughts expressed within the writings of Professor Kean Gibson and Louis Holder are both thought provoking. I give honour to these distinguished writers whose thoughts are considered within the reading public.
But I humbly ask to share from a biblical prospective on the issue within the pages of your daily newspaper.
Transfer of wealth happens when persons die and leave their wealth to their beneficiaries, be it tangible or intangible property.
Governments change, and wealth change hands, whether we know it or not. Corporations change their CEO and wealth change hands.
Organisations, be it secular or spiritual, change leadership, thereafter wealth do the same. Editor, wealth or money will always be an issue, in the hands of those who don’t understand the dynamics of corporative culture and life.
There are more advantages than disadvantages in the distribution of wealth depending on how one looks at it.
To be on a positive note, advantages would be:
1.The timing should be 2022 and not 2020.
2.Persons receiving such, should accept biannual arrangement.
3.Persons should be Guyanese by birth.
4.A system should be put in place to recognize a certain category of persons to receive such.
5.That category should be those that are less fortunate.
6.Persons with a sound primary school education should be considered above others.
7.Monies should be deposited into their bank account.
8.Persons should be associated with a religious organisation, or in the process of doing so.
9.Persons should not be associated with terrorist groups.
10. Persons of unsound mind should not be considered unless.
11. Persons should have a plan {a simple plan} in regards to where the monies will be spent.
12. Persons addicted to gambling or drugs should not be considered unless.
The basic purpose for such a venture should be to enrich lives, raise their self-esteem, create opportunities within work ethics, fulfilling an impossible dream, renewing one’s perspective of life, recalibrating life, enhancing status, revaluing one’s life, giving in a tangible way to society, taking care and preserving of the most precious natural resource – human beings. The best of investments any nation can invest in – directly attending to our human resource, creating abundant wealth within communities.
Editor, these are just some biblical perspectives to a burning issue that is taking centre stage in the minds of many. The disadvantage is having this sum of money in the hands of the wrong persons, for the wrong purpose.
Finally, we need to be a people of faith and avoid negative vibes around and above all let’s make a difference in a world that is indifferent.
Respectfully,
Apostle Vanrick Beresford
