Family members of David Mohan, 53, of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) are hoping for closure after he fell into the river during a fishing trip Thursday last.
The man’s body is yet to be recovered.
The incident occurred in the Demerara River, behind the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown.
Kaieteur News understands that last Thursday around 22:00hrs, Mohan along with his eldest son Christopher, while in the company of another fisher man, left to go on a fishing trip.
Speaking with this publication, a relative of the missing man, Madonna Ghanie, stated that although she was not at the scene of the incident, she was told by the man’s son that minutes before the incident, he complained about not feeling well.
“He tell he son that he was not feeling well… then he tell Christopher to go and bring he pressure table that was in his bag. But when he [Christopher] was about to go for the tablets, he saw his father leaning forward to fall into the river but when he stretch out his hand to assist him it was too late.”
Hours after the accident, the son and his friend were rescued by relatives because neither of them was able to captain the boat back to sea shore, she also disclosed,
Family members have since launched a search party for the missing man.
Meanwhile, the son and the other fisherman are in police custody at the Beterverwagting Police Station assisting with the investigation.
