East Coast Sixers, led by a Player of the Match performance from Sara Amin beat Essequibo Hurricanes by six wickets yesterday in the morning game of the GCB Female U-17 T20 Franchise cricket at Lusignan, while an unbeaten 33 from Player of the Match Varuni Petambir spurred West Demerara Heat to victory against West Berbice Stars in the afternoon encounter at the East Coast Demerara venue.
Renessa Byass retired twice in her top-score of 12 for West B’ce Stars in the afternoon game at Lusignan.
Player of the Match Sarah Amin took two wickets and finished unbeaten on eight to lead East Coast Sixers to victory at Lusignan yesterday.
At the Young Warriors ground in Cumberland, Canje Berbice Georgetown Hitters beat Upper Corentyne Strikers in the morning game and Lower Corentyne Thunders defeated East Bank Warriors to book their places in tomorrow’s final at Bourda from 10:00hrs.
In the first match at Lusignan the Hurricanes aided by 22 extras and 21 from Lisa Charles were dismissed for 58 in the 14th overs as Player of the Match Sara Amin took 2-12, while Tilleya Madram and Sherika Edwards also had two wickets each for Sixers who reached 59-4 in 11.4 overs.
Vinita Balkisoon made 12, while Amin followed up her 17 at Everest on Thursday with eight not out. Charles had 1-14 as her team lost by six wickets.
In the afternoon game on the East Coast, Stars were bowled out for 74 with Extras being the top scorer with 35, while Renesse Byass who retired twice with a groin injury, made 12 and Alisa Fordice contributed 10.
Surika Henry had 3-15 and Avina Bukan 2-4 for the Heat who reached 75-4 with the left-handed Varuni Petambir, who favoured the leg-side, reached the Boundary three times in her unbeaten 33 to take the Player of the Match Award. (Sean Devers)
