The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has acquired the services of Cuban Coach, Osdani Romero Garcia, who arrived in Guyana on Thursday last and will spend two months in the ‘Land of Many Waters’ working with the local tennis players.
Osdani has a good resume with coaching experience in Venezuela top flight and more recently, he guided Caribbean women’s Champion Daniela Fonseca of Cuba to the title when the competition was held in Guyana last March-April.
During a press brief to formally introduce the Spanish-speaking ITTF level one certified coach, head of the GTTA, Godfrey Munroe explained that it is the GTTA’s prerogative to have Osdani work with as many local players as possible and in addition to possibly having two sessions per day at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), he will assist Candacy McKenzie with the Schools’ pathway project.
Upon conclusion of the two-month stint, Garcia will provide the GTTA with recommendations on what he believes is needed for Guyana’s tennis to go to the next level.
