Cycling action is set for Berbice today when the A. Ally and Sons General Stores with branches throughout Guyana stage a 50 miles cycle road race.
Cycle Coach Randolph Roberts collects the sponsorship from a Rep of the A. Ally and Sons stare in the presence of young riders.
The event is being held in memory of the late owner of the Chain of Stores who passed away earlier this year.
The race, which is opened to cyclists throughout Guyana, is organised by the Flying Ace Cycle club (FACC) of New Amsterdam.
The riders are expected to ride off at 10:00hrs from in front of the Super Store Branch at Main and New Street, New Amsterdam, proceed to the Nand Persaud Rice Complex No 36 Village Corentyne before turning back to finish at its place of origin.
The riders will be rewarded with hefty prizes as there will be rewards for the first 10 finishers and the first five novice riders. There will also be eight prime prizes up for the taking.
The company which was one of the leading sponsors of cycle racing a few years ago had taken a hiatus from the sports.
CEO of the Company Fizal Ally will be on hand to send the riders on their way and along with family and staff will be on hand to help with the presentation of the prizes at the end of the event.
The event will be coordinated by Randolph Roberts. (Samuel Whyte)
