The Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) is set to host yet another weekend of exciting action as MACORP yesterday launched its 13th annual invitational tournament which will be held tomorrow.

Following this competition, golfers will be in action again on Sunday as they match skills in the Guyana Marriott tournament. The MACORP competition will be contested in the 0-9, 10-19, and 20-36 Flights where the top three finishers in each Flight will receive prizes as well as the longest drive, nearest to pin, best gross and net overall.
Speaking at the launching ceremony which was held at the ISG headquarters, Peter’s Hall, President of the LGC Aleem Hussain expressed gratitude to the management and staff of the company.
He added that MACORP has always been supportive of the club and played a vital role in helping to shape the course as it is today, adding the it can facilitate play despite any inclement weather.
“The course is in the best condition it has even been, thanks to MACORP. All the top golfers will be on show and it is traditionally, the tournament after the Guyana Open where the biggest battles are because everybody will look to correct what they did wrong and this weekend is going to be one of the biggest showcases of top golfers in Guyana and we look forward to great things in the years ahead.
“Golf presents unique opportunities for women and children with scholarships at major universities being one of the benefits of learning the game,” Hussain pointed out.
“MACORP has set the foundation for what the future of golf is going to be in Guyana and companies can also use the game as a recruiting tool to determine how potential managers and employees react under stress and interact with others to resolve problems immediately without passing blame. This has been an exceptional year for the game and again, thanks to MACORP and ISG for all they have done for the sport and the LGC,” he posited.
CEO of MACORP Guillermo Escarraga told the gathering that golf has made great strides in Guyana over the years and encouraged others to show their support for the players. “MACORP is dedicated to the growth of all Guyanese and we see sports as a way to help the youths,” he added.
Escarraga stated that with the support of MACORP, the only authorised distributor for Caterpillar heavy machinery along with their expanded brands of case tractors, and ISG that they intend to be a part of the LGC for many years to come.
“I especially want to thank the President of the Club Aleem Hussain for his dedication to making the standards of the LGC to mirror those of our company”. Forty (40) golfers are expected to participate, Tee Off time is 12:30hrs.
Also present at yesterday’s launch were MACORP executives Miguel Oviedo, Angel Amaris and Jordi Pinol, Anita Ramprasad, Bonard Joseph and Kevin Bacchus. (Zaheer Mohamed)
