A cashier of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was yesterday released on bail after answering to a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
Dinesh Danraj was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The 31-year-old man pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on May 25, 2019 at Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown, he drove motorcar PTT 4183 in a manner dangerous to the public and thereby causing the death of Brian Hall.
Police prosecutor Neville Jeffers represented the state in the matter and he had no objections to bail being granted to the defendant. However, he asked for conditions to be attached to the bail.
Police facts of the incident stated that on the day in question, Danraj was driving motorcar PTT 4183 on Avenue of the Republic proceeding north in the western carriageway.
He was allegedly proceeding at a fast rate of speed and as he approached the intersection of Regent Street and Avenue of the Republic, he collided with the deceased who at the time was proceeding east to west.
The deceased fell on the road and sustained injuries. Hall was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The magistrate released the defendant on bail in the sum of $500,000. Conditions of the bail are that he is to lodge his passport with the clerk of court and report to the Brickdam Police Station every Friday until the completion of his matter.
His driver’s licence is also suspended pending the outcome of the case. Danraj is expected to return to court on November 14.
