A man who the court heard was previously sentenced to 15 years for murder, is once again behind bars; this time for wounding his workmate.
Paul Johnson admitted to the charge which alleged that on September 20, last, at Durban Backlands, Georgetown, he inflicted grievous bodily harm on Chandrika Vickram.
At the time that the charge was read to the defendant he was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh indicated that the two men used to work together at Durban Backlands.
On the day in question, at around 13:30hrs, Johnson and Vickram were at a construction site when they had a misunderstanding, Johnson then went away but later returned with a cutlass, with which he chopped Vickram before fleeing.
According to the prosecutor, Vickram sustained injuries to the right wrist, left hand and below the elbow leaving the bone visible. He added that based on the medical reports the injuries are not life threatening.
Johnson was sentenced to three years behind bars for the offence.
