The stage is set for this year’s 7th biennial Brusches Basketball Foundation (BBF) Classic Invitational nationwide tournament which bounces off tonight at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court in Linden.
As was stated earlier, this year will be different as the Brusches Basketball Foundation has shifted its focus to the U18 players attending schools around Guyana. This tournament is played every year and is planned by the United States-based BBF which has three brothers who represented Guyana at the senior level internationally, Mike, Clifton and James.
They have decided to give back to the sport in Guyana and this is the seventh tournament. Tonight’s feature game will see Victory Valley Royals based at Wismar in Linden facing Georgetown side Pacesetters, the opening game brings together Kwakwani Ballers and Rosehall Jammers of Berbice at 19.00hrs.
Tomorrow, two matches will be played the first between Pepsi Sonics (Georgetown) and Plaisance Guardians (East Cost of Demerara) while the main attraction brings together Wrangulars representing Bartica against Junior Kings of Mackenzie.
The respective winners of the preliminary round will advance to the semifinals which are set for Friday November 1. The final will be contested one day later, all matches being played at the same venue.
At the launch, BBF made it clear that the prize monies ($600,000) is not for the players but to be used for any project the club sees fit to embark on. There are a number of individual trophies, replicas and medals at stake for players.
Meanwhile, Guyconstruct is the main sponsor of the tournament. The first team collects the winners’ trophy, replicas and $30,000 towards a project while the second placed club will get $20,000 (towards a project) and medals and third place will receive $10,000 for the club and medals.
There will be giveaways on the playing nights of the matches for the spectators Brusche informed.
