Members of the Guyana Police Force Sub Division 2 on Thursday visited the families of the four fishermen who were victims of the latest piracy attack out at sea.
While the bodies of Ajai Kissoon and Lamar Petrie have been found, identified and buried by relatives, still missing and feared dead are Vishnu ‘Kevin’ Seeram and Marvin Tamasar, both of Miss Pheobe, Port Mourant, Berbice.
The team that visited the families was led by Superintendent Mahendra Singh, Officer in Charge of Sub-Division Two and Inspector Godfrey Playter.
Also joining the senior officers were Constable Higgins, Community Relations Officer, Mr. N.Manichan Chairman of the Community Policing Group (B) Division and other ranks. It was the first visit by Government representatives since the tragedy took place.
During the visit the families were offered words of comfort by the police during their difficult time and were assured that the police are working to deliver justice.
To also assist the families, stakeholders and business entities collaborated and made possible hampers for the relatives of the fishermen.
Superintendent Singh expressed his gratitude to Spready’s , Mr. Ali of the Halal Restaurant, Gobin Harbajan, and Mr Lakram, the members of the CPG and others who made the donations possible.
On Wednesday, Ajai Kissoon and Lamar Petrie were laid to rest. Hundreds turned out for Kissoon’s funeral service and burial. Tributes were paid to him by relatives and friends.
The hearse that transported his remains was followed by a huge crowd to his final resting place at the Letter Kenny Burial Ground. However, there were some hiccups with Lamar Petrie’s burial. His mother, Onicka Simon, missed the funeral.
Simon was however furious with media and stated that she no longer wants to speak with reporters “because y’all putting wrong news”.
When Kaieteur News tried to inquire what was the “wrong news” she angrily explained that an online entity stated that she told them that the body took hours to reach the Stanleytown Cemetery forcing the pastor to leave but “that is not true, I never told the reporter that.
“All I said was that I didn’t get to see my son bury. I don’t know where they got that from.”
