As Dr. Balwant Singh’s Hospital commemorates 15 years of operation in Guyana, the media was addressed on Tuesday at its 314 East Street, Georgetown location, about major accomplishments and future objectives as an entity serving Guyana.
One such accomplishment according to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the medical facility, Dr Madhu Singh, is the acquisition of its recent International Organization of Standardization (ISO) certification.
Dr. Madhu said that the ISO certification audit was completed and passed on October 4, 2019. However, it is not until yesterday that the Hospital was formally notified of the approval by the Executive Committee of the ISO to certify its Operations.
She added that the audit was conducted by Perry Johnson Registrars, Inc of Michigan, USA
The pleased and satisfied CEO also emphasised how delighted she is about the news of her hospital’s certification. She told reporters that the sole reason behind their efforts to gain the ISO certification is to ensure that the highest quality of work is produced.
She added that the services audited during the ISO certification process includes Obstetrics, gynaecology, internal medicine, general surgery, nephrology, dialysis, ICU services, emergency services, assisted reproductive technology including IVF, Ophthalmology, dentistry, Radiology, pediatrics, neonatology and cardiology.
Dr. Madhu also took the time to thank staff for their dedication and hard work. She pledged that the hospital’s main goal will be to provide the best quality medical services at an affordable cost for all Guyanese.
She also explained that the hospital has implemented a management system that addresses matters of clients, pinpoint errors and remedy the situation as quick as possible.
The CEO also said that Balwant Singh Hospital is the only medical facility in Guyana to possess in its medical team an embryologist.
Also speaking at the press briefing was Ms. Rodlyn Semple of the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS).
Semple congratulated the hospital on its major accomplishment of becoming the first hospital to have its lab accredited to the ISO15189 standard two years ago and also for its full design ISO 9001 standard accreditation this year.
This certification she said is essential because it makes business much easier, due to the fact that clients can get exactly what they asked for. The reason for this is because “every one that you work with will be using the same standards as opposed to something entirely different which might be produced if the company were to use local standards or no standards at all”.
What is the ISO?
The ISO is an organisation founded way back in 1947 by a group of delegates from 25 different countries which is inclusive of 67 original technical committees.
They came together as a unified body with a unified goal to ensure that all products and services provided by a company are safe, reliable and of good quality.
