Caribbean Men’s Singles and Under-21 bronze medalist, Shemar Britton, won the 2019 edition of the Trinbago Open Men’s Singles Table Tennis Championship. The two-day competition which saw a large number of players entered commenced last Friday and concluded on Saturday night at the National Racquet Centre, Orange Grove Rd, Tacarigua, Trinidad & Tobago.

Britton, who is pursuing studies in the Twin-Island Republic, defeated all his opponents in the group stage to advance to the round-of-64 where he defeated Wayne Oudit by a 3-0 score line to advance to the round-of-32.
He then made light work of Sean Michael with another 3-0 victory while in the last 16 he defeated Abraham Francis by a 3-1 margin. In his quarterfinal match up, Britton eased past former Caribbean junior silver medalist Luco Young in three straight games to advance to the semifinals.
In the semifinal he had a minor hiccup but prevailed over multiple-time Caribbean medalist Curtis Humprey 3-1 to book his place in the final against Arun Roopnarine. The contest for the title was a closely contested encounter but Britton eventually prevailed by a 3-2 margin.
The Guyanese tennis prodigy will now turn his attention to the WASA Table Tennis Club Invitational Team Championships that is part of his preparations and key international engagements leading into the 2020 Olympic qualification events.
