Folks at the St. John Bosco Orphanage got a pleasant surprise Friday afternoon when a group of visiting Nigerian doctors arrived at the facility with a donation of rice, toilet paper, detergents, and powdered milk, and sugar for students residing at the institution.
With Nigeria celebrating its 59th Independence Anniversary, the doctors decided on the outreach initiative as part of acknowledging the need to reach out to the underprivileged and less fortunate.
Most of the doctors are medical students, studying here in Guyana. They also embrace and share in the Guyanese culture.
After prayers by the visiting team, and words of appreciation from some of the orphans, the doctors pledged their alliance to support the institution annually, indicating that they will also seek out other donor agencies from Nigeria to give to the cause at the orphanage.
Orphanage Administrator, Mrs Grace Daniels, was elated at the gesture. She indicated that it was very thoughtful of the doctors to reach out to the orphanage. She was particularly pleased at the doctors’ declaration to engage other donor agencies to assist them, indicating that the institution is highly dependent on donor contributions for their functions.
