Andrew Lyght Jr. followed up his 130 last weekend with a responsible 91 to spearhead Police to a 14-run win over Everest. Jerimiah Scott followed his 97 in his last innings to spur MSC to a three-wicket win; unbeaten fifties from Anand Persaud and Dowlat Ram led Sophia to a six-wicket win over Bel Air Rubis while a decent all-round performance from Joshua Ramsammy took GYO to a 15-run victory against UG when NBS 40-Overs second division cricket action continued in the City yesterday.
At Eve Leary, Ramsammy top score with 21 as GYO were bowled out for 104 in 27.3 overs. Povindra Persaud, Nicholas Bollers and Guhini Favorite took two wickets each for the University of Guyana who fell for 89, Devon Paul made 16. Ramsammy and Trevon France had three wickets each.
At Everest, in a game reduced to 35 overs due to early morning rain, Police reached 189-5 with Andrew Lyght Jr. following up his 130 last weekend with a carefully constructed 91 from 97 balls, hitting three sixes and three fours. He added 66 with Kemol Savory (26) and 58 with Pernell London (22*) before he was dismissed off the last ball of the innings by Troy Gonsalves.
Everest were bowled out for 175 in 33.1 overs despite 55 from Amir Khan and 38 from Skipper Saheed Mohamed. Vishal Jaigobin had 3-47 while there were two wickets each for Savory, Hemchand Persaud and Darson Larose.
At Malteenoes, Andre Oneale made 31 as Third Class were all out for 107 in 24 overs in a game reduced to 25 overs due to rain. Marcus Watkins (3-9) and Nichosie Barker (3-21) did the damage for MSC, who were led to 109-7 by another brilliant innings of 61 from Scott who made 97 last weekend.
Akeem Crithlow supported with 21 as Kishan Singh (2-21) was Third Class’s beat bowler.
At QC, making its return to hosting GCA competitions, Sophia beat Bel Air Rubis in their inaugural season in this tournament.
Bel Air Rubis made 173 in a game reduced to 20 overs due to morning rain in Georgetown with Devendra Bishram making 37, Chandra Geenarine (32) and Kenton Thomas 32 being the main scorers.
Anand Persaud and Dowlat Ram took two wickets each for Sophia who, on the back of an unbeaten 65 from Persaud and 60 from Ram reached 176-4 in 17.4 overs; Arthur Duke and Dexter Jones had two wickets each.
The competition continues next Saturday since there is no cricket today due to CPL playoffs at Providence. (Sean Devers)
