On Wednesday, the final night of quarterfinal play in the ongoing fourth annual Limacol Football tournament being contested solely at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on Carifesta Avenue, Riddim Squad prevailed over Mahaica Determinators via kicks from penalty mark while Fruta Conquerors Under-20 made light work of Timehri Panthers in the feature clash.
Conquerors’ Nicholas McArthur continued his rich goal scoring form to net an early brace with the goals coming in the 5th and 11th minute during his side’s 3-1 win. The Tucville based club that are the clear favourites for the title were 3-0 up when Ryan Hackett scored in the 75th minute of the clash before Junior Adams netted a stoppage time consolation for Timehri Panthers.
In the first match between Mahaica Determinators of the East Coast of Demerara and the Mocha Arcadia based Riddim Squad which prevailed 7-6 on penalties after the two teams were locked 1-1 after full and extra time.
Kevin Gordon slotted home in the 12th minute for Riddim Squad from a corner set-piece but Eion Abel equalised 11 minutes later from the penalty spot. Abel had weaseled his way into the penalty area and after dribbling the final defender and being one v one with goalkeeper Ron Liverpool, the Referee decided to stop play for a hand ball offence by the last defender. Abel made no mistake in firing what would be the final goal of the match past Liverpool.
The semifinals will be played tomorrow at the same venue and the fixtures have been released. In the first match kicking off at 19:00hrs, Riddim Squad will play Fruta Conquerors before Pele FC matches skills with Santos FC at 21:00hrs.
The winners of this tournament, which is also supported by W.J. Enterprise, will pocket $400,000, second $200,000, third $100,000 and the losers of the third place playoff will walk away with $50,000.
