The Rotary Club of Demerara’s (RCD) inaugural Off-Road Rally, which is set to take off this Saturday on the Linden/Soesdyke highway, will see over 30 registered participants going head to head in the anticipated fun-filled, fundraising activity.
The Demerara Rotary off-road rally fundraiser event is set for this Saturday in the Linden/Soesdyke highway area.
RCD President Hansraj Singh confirmed recently that the 30 confirmed participants; inclusive of off-road vehicles and bikes, will traverse four terrains with the event commencing at 08:00hrs and concluding at 15:00hrs.
Singh explained that the idea was birthed because, “There is a lot of interest right now in Guyana with all these people having off-road vehicles, bikes and ATVs and not having a coordinated activity to participate in other than visiting those hinterland communities and (participating in) the safari.”
The event will encompass trails in the Kuru Kururu, Marudi and the Soesdyke/Linden Highway areas; towards the South Dakota Circuit, Linden Town then aback of Dora, slightly close to the Pakuri trail that leads to the Pakuri Village. Each one of these routes is accessible just off the Soesdyke/ Linden Highway.”
The winners will be judged on how quickly they traverse the routes but strict adherence will be paid to speed limits for those trails that encompass road passages. A full medical team will be on standby should any mishaps occur along with live monitoring of all competitors. There would also be roving response vehicles on hand to rescue any teams should this become necessary during the rally.
Persons desirous of registering for the event can do so via the Rotary Club of Demerara or the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s office, Thomas Lands.
