I am a holder of a valid Republic Bank Visa One Card, issued by Republic Bank Guyana Limited (RBL) in Guyana. In May of this year, RBL placed a hold on all Visa online transactions because their system was, reportedly, compromised. However, it is now the month of October yet RBL has not removed the hold on the Visa service, only the condition that card holders must telephone their Republic Bank Trinidad branch using the telephone number that they have provided, 868-625-1200, in order to remove the hold.
I would like to state emphatically, that this telephone number does not work and RBL is entirely aware of it. Calls to the telephone number are routed via answering machine and placed on indefinite hold – adverts are played continuously but no one answers, regardless for how long one holds or how many times one calls the number. Please note that all the while customers have to pay the cost for the call, since there is no toll real free number for this service.
Having encountered this frustrating scenario, I made telephone contact with the local RBL Water Street, Georgetown branch, but was told by RBL’s customer representative that that is the policy and there’s nothing that they can do about it.
I am asking that someone look into this unfair and frustrating issue with Republic Bank Guyana Limited.
Thank you.
