The 592 Beer and I Cool Water 10/10 softball competition is set to culminate on October 13 at Queens College ground. Action will commence at 09:00hrs with the playoffs followed by the semi finals and final.
The competition commenced several weeks ago and the teams that have progressed to the playoffs are Avengers XI, Farm XI, Up Setters, Success Youths, East Coast All Star, Omesh XI, Speed Boat, LBI All Star, Lowland XI, SVC Grill Masters, Booths XI and Ariel Enterprise All Star.
The winning team will take home a trophy and $100,000 while the runner up will pocket a trophy and $30,000; the man-of-the-match in the final will receive a trophy and $5,000. Organiser Samuel Kingston said in addition to the 10/10 contest, there will be a Masters Over-45 and Over-50 competitions playing simultaneously at the venue. The Over-50 competition will be of 15 overs duration and will feature Regal Masters, Savage Masters and Parika Defenders with the winning team taking home the 592 Beer trophy while the teams competing in the Over-45 category (15 overs) are Regal Masters, Fisherman Masters and Wellman Masters and will battle for the I Cool Water trophy.
Both competitions will be played on a round-robin basis and the runner ups will also receive a prize. Meanwhile, Ariel Enterprise All Star will commence its Pinktober breast cancer initiative in the 592 Beer and I Cool Water softball competition.
The team will be playing a number of softball and tapeball matches throughout the country and will be making donations to the organisation. Ariel Enterprise All Star skipper Ariel Persaud said it’s their way of giving back to the society, adding that the players are happy to part of the drive. He noted that sport has its role to play in society and hopes that this will serve as a motivation for other teams and organisations.
