I will be grateful if you can publish our concerns on what is happening to staff members within GuySuCo. Over the years working with this company, there were great times, but of recent, things are not what they used to be. We all know that we are not producing sugar like before, but with the closure of four sugar estates, we would have thought that there will be sufficient funds to run these estates as per normal. It is very disappointed to know that staff members, after working an entire month, cannot be paid and what is most disgusting is that you don’t know when you will be paid. What was related to us is that a date will be fixed for salaries to be paid sometime in the coming week. This is unacceptable; we worked hard and gave countless hours to this company to keep it alive.
Salaries are of great importance to anyone, bills have to be paid, mortgages have to be paid, children to send to school will need stuff that we as parents should be able to provide.
I am hoping that management and the government can look into this serious matter and look at the well being and suffering that staff members face at the end of the month when they are not compensated for their labour.
Yours respectfully,
Depressed worker
