The month long celebration of the Berbice Cricket Board 80th Anniversary continues with overseas based Guyanese Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh and local furniture giant A.H. & L Kissoon Ltd making major contributions toward the office restoration project. The project, one of the main programmes for the 80th Anniversary Celebration, was spearheaded by President Hilbert Foster, Public Relations Officer Simon Naidu, Treasurer Dr. Cecil Beharry and Administrator Angela Haniff.
Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh contributed $371,000 (US$1800) which would be used to tile the 20’ x 30’ feet office, purchase electric fans and plastic and folding chairs for the Dr. Cheddi Jagan Street, New Amsterdam based office.
The Management of A. H & L Kissoon Ltd on Tuesday last handed over a three piece suite worth $110,000 to Foster at its Port Mourant branch. The Berbice Cricket Board boss expressed gratitude to Dr. Singh who for this year alone has contributed over $2M of his own funds for sponsorship of the 2019 Cricket Academy, Countywide Coaching Programme, water pitcher project among otherss. He described the Texas based Medical Doctor as one of the main reason why his twenty months Presidency has been so successful. The purchasing of the chairs means that the Berbice Cricket Board would no longer have to rent them whenever it holds meetings or official functions at the office.
The three piece suite would enable the proactive Cricket Board to properly host visitors at its office and is one of numerous improvements over the last month. The office now has its own television set, DVD player, water dispenser, Desktop computer, printer, fax machine, electric fans among others. The Management of the Board has also purchased numerous other items to make sure that the Berbice Cricket Board becomes self reliance. The Board has also obtained sponsorship to install PVC ceiling on the roof, while the Wall of Fame would be upgraded to international standards.
The month long celebration of the BCB 80th Anniversary has been very successful. Among the programmes hosted were Nursery School Poster Competition, Primary School Poster Competition, Secondary School Essay Competition, Television Programme, Tribute to Heroes, Tribute to Retired Cricketers, Cricketers Hall of Fame, Administrator Hall of Fame, water pitcher project, cricket balls project, 80th Anniversary Book, four pages newspaper pullout, Let’s Bet Sports 20/20 Competition, Gears for Under-13 players, Honouring of West Indies Female Debutants, Berbice Greatest Players, donations to NGOs, bicycles for young players, distribution of 80 school bags, food hampers for less fortunate families, cricket gears for clubs, 80th Anniversary Souvenir Cups and 80th Anniversary Posters.
