Fruta Conquerors’ Nicholas McArthur netted his second hat-trick in three matches when play in the ongoing Fourth annual Limacol Football Tourney continued on Wednesday night to lead his team to an emphatic 8-1 hammering of Buxton Stars FC.
It was Fruta Conquerors’ final Group ‘B’ round-robin match contested at the tournament venue, Ministry of Education (MOE) Ground, Carifesta Avenue. Playing good supporting roles in the goal feast were Ryan ‘Bum Bum’ Hackett who opened the scoring in the 29th minute before completing his brace in the 49th.
Wayne Barker also bagged a brace for the Tucville based club while Dihara Thomas got his name on the score sheet with a solitary strike in the 84th. Jamali Major scored Buxton’s lone goal in the 63rd minute.
The win for Conquerors allowed them to top the group with a perfect record after already qualifying; Buxton Stars finished second in the group with four points. In the feature match of the night, GT Panthers needled Pouderoyen FC to secure the second quarterfinal qualifying spot courtesy of Vincent Thomas’ 13th minute goal; Riddim Squad was first to qualify in this group.
The action continues tonight with another double header, in the first match Timehri Panthers will play Black Pearl with the winner guaranteed a place in the quarter finals but a draw will be good enough for the Panthers to go through.
Feature play will see Riddim Squad, already qualifying for the knockout round playing Beacons FC, virtually playing for pride. The top two sides from the four groups of four teams each will advance after the completion of the round-robin phase which will conclude tonight.
The winners of this edition will pocket $400,000, second $200,000, third $100,000 and the losers of the third place playoff will walk away with $50,000.
