The curtains will fall on the Solo Drink Under-20 Hockey Development League for males and females following this weekend’s play at the St. Stanislaus College (SSC) Ground where five matches as scheduled to be contested from 15:00hrs between tomorrow and Sunday.
Bingo Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Spartans are poised for glory in the girls’ division with a perfect record from their fi
ve matches contested. However, they will play the Saints girls in their final match tomorrow at 15:50hrs and only an unlikely defeat by four goals or more would see the Bingo Spartans not lifting the championship trophy.
In the Under-20 boys’ division, GCC Pit Bulls are way ahead with 19 points accumulated from their seven games. YMCA Old Fort Hockey Club (OFHC) are second place with 13 points and if they can manage to defeat Saints Hockey Club (SHC) Samurai tomorrow and the Pitbulls on Sunday, OFHC will win the league.
The weekend’s play will not be void of action in the Quicker Picker Upper second-division league since seven matches are scheduled to be thrashed out. The feature matchup in the men’s second division tomorrow will see Saints Savages looking to regain their top form after being downed by the Shockwave last week and they will have stiff opposition in perennial favourites Bounty GCC.
In the Women’s second division play, the highlight will be when Saints crosses sticks with Bingo GCC Spartans that thumped favourites GBTI GCC 5-3 on Sunday last. The inform Saints women are currently top of the points ranking but the Spartans, coming off a successful stint in the twin island republic of Trinidad & Tobago after winning the Paragon Under-16 and 21 tournaments two weeks ago, will be looking to create an upset when the game gets underway on Sunday at 15:50hrs.
Following the conclusion of these outdoor development leagues will be the GTT and Diamond Mineral Water indoor leagues scheduled for the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), Homestretch Avenue.
