Having received a sound thrashing at the hands of her partner, not the first time, and being hospitalised, the victim is not only refusing to co-operate but has allegedly lied to law enforcement officers (‘Woman severely beaten by husband refuses to press charges … Sept. 24).
A crime was committed but the victim is refusing to co-operate with law enforcement.
This has to be seen as tantamount to an offense in itself and a travesty.
Too often victims take matters into their own hands by refusing to have their partners and perpetrators of the offense face the consequences of their grievous actions, hoping that by giving a reprieve and another chance, change will come.
But change doesn’t come… and then it is too late.
