A prison warder is presently nursing several injuries about the body after he was reportedly stabbed once, and chopped three times during an altercation with a neighbour.
His attacker has reportedly fled from his ‘A’ Field, Sophia home in the company of his reputed wife, the morning after the incident, according to reports.
Joel Meyers, 28, told this publication that on Thursday morning last, his child mother, Rashawana Lewis, 24, woke up around 07:00 hours and sent their daughter, 7, to empty her ‘pottie’ in an outside pit latrine.
He said himself and close neighbour had pooled monies to build the latrine which was used by several persons squatting on a reserve in the area.
Meyers said on the day in question, his young daughter returned to inform them that there was a padlock on the washroom. He said on investigating he was told that his neighbour had placed the padlock on the structure.
They sent the young girl to beg the neighbour’s wife to open the toilet.
Meyers said the girl returned in tears moments later saying that the woman had chased her using obscenities.
Meyers said he confronted the woman who refused to open the toilet, and as a result he took a hammer and broke the lock.
The man said he was about to enter the toilet when the woman charged him with a cutlass, ranting about ownership to the latrine.
The prison warder said he ran to safety some distance away, where neighbours urged him to remain calm.
He said around that time, he overheard a commotion coming from his home, and on investigating, saw his female attacker on top of his child-mother, hitting her in the face. He said he rushed to her rescue and pulled off the woman.
Myers said the woman went into her home and summoned her child-father who arrived and after listening to his partner’s side of the story, emerged from the home with a cutlass, a chopper, and a knife that he concealed in his waist.
Gentle said that he tried to make peace but the man chopped him on his head, behind the neck, and on the left hand, almost severing his left thumb.
He said although he was severely injured, he charged his attacker, grabbed him and plunged into a nearby muddy trench with him, before neighbours came to his rescue.
The wound to Meyers’ head required 14 stitches, while the one behind his neck needed 12.
He was also stabbed with the knife above the left hip and that wound required six stitches as well.
Meyers said after the attack, his neighbour fled the scene, while his partner locked herself in their home.
He said his assailant may have returned during the night as they slept, since the following morning, they discovered that they had cleaned out everything and abandoned the Sophia home.
The matter has been reported to the Turkeyen Police Station, and police are hunting Meyer’s attacker.
