Chesney Cricket Club (CCC), a member club of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has joined hands with the BCB to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Guyana’s most dynamic cricket organisation. The Executives and Members of the Club visited the Camal Children Home and hosted 30 Orphans to a special luncheon.
BCB President Hilbert Foster had challenged all cricket clubs in the Ancient County to undertake a programme as part of the historic anniversary. The clubs were encouraged to either host a Charity Programme or to assist students to fulfill their educational ambitions.
Clubs have to submit a photo of the event to the BCB and at the end of the 80th Anniversary Celebrations at the end of this month; the Board would select the best project. The winner would receive a special prize from the BCB.
Foster hailed the hard work of CCC and their cooperation with his administration. He encouraged them to continue their hard work and committed himself to working along with every club to fulfill their mandate.
Club Secretary Ricky Amoi stated that they were pleased to be involved in the 80th Anniversary Celebration of the Berbice Cricket Board. He stated that club members pooled their own funds to undertake the project and similar programmes would be done in the future.
Foster has encouraged clubs across Berbice to move away from being mere cricketing organisations and to become agents of change in their communities. Chesney in the past had a very active first division team but now play in all BCB Second Division tournaments. The club in 2019 had benefitted from donations of a water pitcher, scorebook, educational materials, cricket balls, bicycle and finance for fencing from the BCB while it also hosted the Dhieranidranauth Somwaru Tribute Tournament.
Players the likes of Sudesh Dhaniram, Sunil Dhaniram, Faizal Sattaur, Naresh Manhobe, Shabika Gajbani and Imran Khan are all products of Chesney Village.
