An unequivocal apology is hereby extended to Justice Brassington Reynolds in relation to an article published in the Tuesday, September 10, 2019 edition of this newspaper.
In the article in question, captioned ‘Alleged rapist, convicted drug trafficker granted High Court bail,’ this publication failed to note that an official from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)’s office appeared in both matters and did not oppose the application for bail. Added to this, the article failed to note that the state failed to file an affidavit in answer to the applications for bail.
Kaieteur News regrets that these integral details were missing from the article and sincerely apologises to Justice Reynolds who heard the applications for bail last week Friday.
It must be noted that this was due to the fact that our reporter was not present for these hearings, since they were held in chambers.
In this regard, the reporter sourced the relevant court documents from the registry and did the article based on what was contended in the Fixed Date Applications (FDA) filed on behalf of the persons seeking bail.
For the misrepresentation in the article, we sincerely apologise for any embarrassment caused to Justice Reynolds and assure him that no malice was intended.
