Headed by Grandmaster and Soke Dr. A. Nazim Yassim, On Friday August 16, 2019, a team of eight from the Guyana International Kyokushinkai Martial Arts Academy (GIKMAA) left Guyana with five students set to compete on August 18, in the Shuriken’s 5th international martial arts championship in Suriname.
Dr. Yassim’s team dominated the 2 division that they competed in, namely the Traditional Katas, and the points fighting. And have once again proven to the Surinamese that they are the Champions.
The Guyana Int’l Kyokushinkai Martial Arts Academy won a total of 8 medals; 7 gold and 1 silver.
Results as follows:
Nazim Richard Yassim (Son of Dr. A.Nazim Yassim) competing in his first tournament won gold in the 14 – 15 Traditional Kata, (inter-mediate division).
Christian Freeman; 2gold in the 14 – 15 Traditional Kata and Kumite, advance division.
Ravi Samaroo; 2 gold in the 19 – 20 Traditional Kata and Kumite division.
Ganesh Persaud; gold and silver in the 20 – 22 Traditional Kata and Kumite division.
Sharda Sookwah; gold in the 23 – 24 Traditional Kata division.
Dr. Nazim Yassim said that he is once again very pleased with the team’s performance as they turn their attention to their seventh International Martial Arts Championships on September 15.
Dr. Nazim Yassim and the Guyana Int’l Kyokushinkai Martial Arts Academy wishes to express their gratitude to the Gafsons Industries Ltd, Ramsundar Bisnauth, Jiunkuan Wu, Grace (Yong Li) and R. Roopnarine.
