National Chess competition returns to Berbice tomorrow, 1st September, when the Berbice Chess Association (BCA) will be staging the A. Ally and Sons Open Rapid Chess competition.
The one day tournament which will be played at the University Of Guyana, Berbice Campus (UGBC), Tain, Corentyne, Berbice, is expected to see all the top Chess players in the country participating.
The competition will be played for seven rounds using the Swiss System format with each player being allotted 20 minutes per game. Registration begins at 09:00 hrs with play set to commence at 10:00hrs.
Cash, trophies and other incentives will be presented to the top players all compliments of A. Ally and Sons.
The A. Ally & Sons Chain of stores has a number of branches in Berbice and Demerara and is known for its benevolence in a wide cross section of activities.
On Wednesday last, Rubina Somwaru, a representative of A. Ally & Sons Chain of Stores, presented the sponsorship cheque for the tournament to President of the BCA Krishnanand Raghunandan and Vice President Steve Leung outside the Company’s head office, Main Street and Coopers Lane, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
According to Mr. Raghunandan, the BCA made contact with Managing Director Fizal Ally concerning sponsorship for the tournament and this was readily agreed upon.
