Good news for fans and footballers, the Fourth annual Limacol Football tournament which kicks off tomorrow evening at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground from 19:00hrs with a double header has seen an increase of teams participating from 12 to 16.
Action during the Limacol 2018 semifinal between eventual champions Police (on the ball) and Riddim Squad.
The additional teams are Santos and Fruta Conquerors Under-20 teams, Dynamic FC and Police FC ‘B’. The tournament was slated to have four groups of three but there will be four groups of four teams each battling in initial round-robin group play before the top two teams from each group advances to the final-8 knockout round. The groupings are as follows:
Group A – Santos Under-20, Camptown, Grove Hi Tech, Black Pearl.
Group B – Fruta Conquerors Under-20, Buxton Stars, GFC, Northern Rangers
Group C – Riddim Squad, Beacons, Pouderoyen, East Veldt/Gt Panthers
Group D – Dynamics FC, Mahaica Determinators, Pele, Police ‘B’
Tomorrow’s fixtures will pit Dynamics FC against Police ‘B’ in the opening game while Santos U-20s will match skills with Black Pearl in the feature game from 21:00hrs. A total of $750,000 in prize monies is up for grabs with the winners set to pocket $400,000 while the runners-up will walk away with $200,000.
The winner of the third place playoff will receive $100,000 and the fourth place finishers will enjoy $50,000.
