Guyana has shown its support to keep motor racing alive in the Caribbean by sending five cars to compete in this weekend’s Williams Industries International Race Meet, organised by the Bushy Park Motorsport Inc. (BPMI).
Team Guyana consists of Rameez Momamed who will be competing in Groups 2 and 3 with his Honda Civic, Danny Persaud in his Mazda Miata for Groups 3 and 4 along with Mohan Rangasammy who is slated for Group 4 action in his Mazda Rx7.
Andrew King, the 2017 and 2018 Group 4 champion will be in his iconic yellow RX-7 while Guyana’s first Caribbean group 4 champion; Kristian Jeffery will be contesting the SR3 Radicals class.
The competitors have been supported majorly by Tropical Shipping Company that has sponsored the shipment of the vehicles to the ‘Land of the Flying Fish’ with three 40ft containers. Mohamed, who is also President of Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club, commented on the support from Tropical Shipping, saying that, “Tropical shipping has become a pillar for motorsport in this country. They take our cars and our bikes where we need to go and their support is obviously something that is invaluable to the sport.”
Tomorrow will serve as the qualifying round while Sunday will see the competitors going head to head in three races each in their classes.
