Recent letters to the Editor in your medium and some others have demonstrated the thoughts of a peculiar gallimaufry of certain elements in this society who are hell bent on showing off their stupidity.
The President has the sole task of calling elections; the Chair of GECOM has the role of guiding the Commission in making wise decisions concerning dates for elections. The President and the Commission will act in their own deliberate judgments. The decisions and processes that have to be dealt with by both parties are exclusively theirs. No amount of litigation nor subtle bullying will in any way affect what they do.
The noted and named persons who have been trying to force the hands of the previously named parties should better spend their time educating the public on their rights. GECOM has the right to advertise for elections activities. They have the right to quote the law in respect to prosecutions for failing to register. I registered on Saturday last and I am most pleased that they are doing an excellent job in an atmosphere of hostility and indifference.
Why did not our Ralph work harder to effect changes to the constitution when he had the chance? Why did not the other litigants lobby harder for constitutional changes? They didn’t because it did not suit their agendas. They have been outwitted and now they go bawling for changes. When we have the chance to do positive things we must embark thereon lest we live to rue the day further on.
Remember editor, the PPP lambasted the Burnham constitution. When they got in to power in1992, they just ignored its pimples and merrily drove on enjoying all the perks. Today, when they are in the opposition, they are hollering foul. Twenty-three years is a long time to go waste. They should have fostered reform of the constitution when they had the time at their disposal. They must now put up or just plainly shut up.
I am pleased that the Court has been handing down salutary judgments on costs. This should deter others who would similarly wish to waste the Court’s time.
Regards,
Cyril Walker
