The New Amsterdam Town Week 2019 this year will be a two weeks affair and is expected to feature a number of sporting events.
The event was launched recently at Leisure Inn Hotel in New Amsterdam under the theme “Diversification is the Focus, Inclusion is the Goal, Celebration through Transformation in 2019”. This year will mark the 128th anniversary of the town of New Amsterdam.
Among those at the launching ceremony were Mayor of New Amsterdam Winifred Haywood, Deputy-Mayor, Wainwright McIntosh, Director of Sports Christopher Jones and Members of the Private Sector among others.
The activities are expected to run from Friday 18, October to Sunday 3rd November.
Among the activities listed are Inter School Basketball Competition, Bird Whistling Competition, Inter-School Debating Competition, Male Empowerment Pageant, Domino Competition, Poetry Competition, Medical Outreaches, Renaming of Streets, Street Fair and Exhibition, Duck Curry Competition and Cooler Fete and a Soft Ball Cricket Competition.
Mayor Haywood and Deputy Mayor McKenzie both pledged theirs and the Council’s full support to the event, while Director of Sports Christopher Jones made a pledge to support the sporting activities which he said will bring communities, organisations and agencies together.
CNG, who are the organisers, is a multi-cultural NGO that participates in a number of activities including sports and community activities among others.
