The Guyana Committee of Service’s mandate is to assist sportsmen and sports women along with the performing arts, and yesterday they continued with a contribution to Danish Persaud, who will be contesting the Caribbean Mini and Pre-Cadet table tennis tournament in the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The event begins tomorrow and will conclude on the 27th and according to committee member, Leslie Black, when the GCOS heard that the young Persaud was in need of assistance, the GCOS was quick to react.
The committee has assisted Persaud with his tournament Levy fees and 50% of his airfare to the Spanish-speaking capital. The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has paid the other 50% of Persaud’s airfare.
Meanwhile, efforts are being stepped up for the next Sunday’s GCOS Annual Summer Camp 5k road race which is being held in the National Park.
In addition, the committee’s grand raffle, which profits goes towards their mandate, will be drawn on August 31st. The first place prize is $1million, second place; a Hero Honda Motorcycle, third; one refrigerator, fourth; a 32-inch Television and fifth; a microwave. The cost of a raffle ticket is just $500.
