Guyana’ National Mini Cadet (11 Years and under) and Pre cadet (13 years and under) table tennis contingent is set to depart Guyana tomorrow, Monday 19th August, for the Dominican Republic to contest the 2019 Caribbean Mini and Pre-cadet championships scheduled for the August 19-27.
The Caribbean Cadet and Junior Championships engage girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 13 years and under players in the Caribbean region. It is one of the signature competitions on the GTTA’s and Caribbean calendar of events, since its forms the basis for regional table tennis supremacy and the incubator and platform for the development of young emerging table tennis talents and from which all of the region table tennis stars commence their journey.
Guyana’s representatives will include a very formidable group of players the likes ofNational 13,18 and 15 years and Under Boys Champion Jonathan Vanlange, the talented Colin Wong, Krystian Sahadeo, Dhanesh Persaud, who are in their fourth and final cycle of competing at the Mini and Pre cadet level and who will form Guyana’s under 13 boys team in addition to the Boys 11 years and under team of Malachi Moore, who is currently in the Dominican Republic participating in the World Hopes Caribbean training camp and fast improving and energetic Ebo McNeil (debutant from Linden) along with our under 11 girls team of national 11 and 13 years and under girls champion Jasmine Billingy, the talented Akira Watson, and tenacious Samara Sukhai, are strong candidates for possible medal performances.
The team will be coached by Shavin Greene, Dwain Dick with assistance from Colin France.
The GTTA has commenced planning its activities on a 4-6 years basis and sees the selected players as our next prospects to transition as key representatives of Guyana at regional and international tournaments, Junior Olympics and Junior Olympic cycle games in the future.
Guyana has had a rich tradition of success, winning several medals and bringing Guyana regional honours against competing teams that includes Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Aruba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, St Lucia and St Vincent.
Competition for regional honours will be in the categories of Boys and Girls 11 and 13 Yrs team Doubles, mixed doubles and singles events.

Under – 11 Boys: Malachi Moore and Ebo McNeil
Under – 11 Girls: Jasmine Billingy, Samara Sukhai, and Akira Watson
Under – 13 Boys: Jonathan Van Lange, Krystian Sahadeo, Colin Wong, and Dhanesh Persaud

Several Parents will also be making the sojourn.
The team has been engaged in regular training sessions, including morning individual sessions and afternoon national team sessions aimed at having them optimally prepared to perform at these championships.
