The Blairmont Community Centre Cricket Club (BCCCC), situated on the West Bank of Berbice is holding a two weeks cricket camp at its location at the Blairmont Community Center. The camp is being held under the theme “Options for Youths”.
Class room sessions as Coaches Colin Stuart and Michael Hyles take the youngsters through their paces.
The event which began on Monday, 12th August will last until August 25. Sessions are being held from 14:00hrs to 17:00hrs daily.
According to the organisers the camp is still open to youths from ages 10 to 16 years residing anywhere from Ithaca, West Bank to Abary on the West Coast Berbice. Coaching session will encompass both indoor and outdoor activities.
Participants will be taken through the basic aspects of the game including batting, bowling, fielding, catching, wicketkeeping and throwing among other skills.
There will also be lectures on topics such as health, career opportunities, leadership, social ills and other discipline.
The participants will be taken through their paces by a team of experienced and qualified coaches and other individuals in the related topics.
Despite the inclement weather the camp has been ongoing with some 41 youths in attendance.
According to the organisers one of the objectives of the camp is to recognise talent at a very early age and help enhance the members of the club.
The camp has been ongoing for over nine years and a number of players who have graduated from the camp and have gone on to represent Berbice and Guyana at various age groups.
Among the coaches are former West Indies Player Colin Stuart and for National Player Michael Hyles.
Former Guyana and West Indies player and Government Minister Roy Fredericks was a member of the Club as well as Former Guyana Player and BCB president.
