Guyana Rush Saints recorded its first win of the Theresa and George Bobb/RFA Under-17 Women’s round-robin tournament on Wednesday via a 2-1 margin against Far East Sports Club as the tournament entered its second day.
Both goals were scored by Zina Cabral in the 3rd and 33rd, minute respectively while Far East SC’s Waynedella Hernandez was the lone scorer for her team, giving the three points to Guyana Rush Saints.
While the match was initially delayed due to the inclement weather, when the first whistle sounded Cabral took control finding the back of the net after a quick pass from her team mate. At the halfway mark, the score remained at 1-0 in favour of Guyana Rush Saints FC even though both teams looked very aggressive as a team and individually in all departments on the pitch.
When the second half commenced, Hernandez was given a through pass and made full use of the goal-scoring opportunity, equalising five minutes into play. It was three minutes later that Number 10, Cabral of Rush Saints FC, once again placed her team in a better position by scoring her second goal in the match and further securing the win.
Unfortunately, Match number five involving Sky Kings FC and Tabatinga FC was rescheduled due to Sky Kings FC being unable to travel once again due to heavy rains, which continue to be a problem for clubs out of Central Rupununi.
The tournament continues today at the St Ignatius Sports Club with a triple header, which is scheduled to kick off at 17:00hrs.
Terminators FC will oppose Moco Moco FC @ 17:00hrs; Gladiators FC face Saints FC @ 18:00hrs and Rising Stars tangle with Tabatinga FC.
