Police are yet to take a statement from a key witness to the horrific crushing death last June of seven-year-old Ciara Benjamin on the Agricola Public Road.
That’s because the eyewitness, a female relative of the child, is reportedly still too traumatized.
Traffic Chief Linden Isles told Kaieteur News that the woman’s relatives have relayed this to investigators.
Benjamin was in the company of her aunt, Simone Barry, when she was instantly killed after she was hit by a sand-laden truck headed north along the Public Road.
Police have received different accounts of what transpired.
One report is that the child was waiting to cross the road with her aunt, Barry, when the horrific accident happened.
They were reportedly standing close to the median when the sand truck, with registration GWW962 slammed into the structure. The accident resulted in the child’s legs being severed.
Ciara was pinned to the median.
The driver, later identified as Danion Welcome was beaten by incensed residents who rushed to the scene. His truck was also torched.
