St. Ignatius Sports Ground came alive last Saturday when the Theresa and George Bobb – RFA Under-17 Women’s round-robin 2019 tournament kicked off with two exciting matches witnessed by a vocal crowd from the start of the first whistle until completion.
The day saw only two of the three scheduled matches being played due to the inclement weather, which prevented the travel of Potarinau Sky Kings FC to the venue and therefore causing a rescheduling of that match to a date to be announced.
The second match kicked off at the scheduled 17:00hrs start with Moco-Moco FC and Tabatinga
FC battling for a victory, but despite their best efforts the match finished with a 1 – 1 score line at the end of the allotted 50-minute match. The crowd was treated to some very exciting individual skills and talents as they cheered on and saw Naomi Scipio of Moco-Moco FC registering the first goal for her team and of the tournament. Having received a pass from her teammate, she made no mistake putting her team ahead in the fifth minute. When the half time whistle was sounded, the score remained at 1 – nil in favor of Moco – Moco FC. Following the break, Sheneka Atkinson of Tabatinga FC wasted no time after a one-on-one challenge and registered her first goal of the tournament, equalizing for her team three minutes into to the second half.
The final match between Gladiators FC and Terminators FC began at 18:20hrs with Terminators FC employing an aggressive style of play from start to finish. Conessa Francis of Terminators
FC received a ball in front of her opponent’s goal area and found the back of the net in the sixth minute. The first half concluded 1 – nil. Terminators continued to press on as Celine George made use of an opportunity in the third minute of the second half, putting her team in a better position, making it 2 – nil. Eight minutes later, Francis once again extended the lead much further to secure her team’s first win in the tournament with a 3 – 0 score line.
The Tournament continues today from 17:00hrs at the St. Ignatius Sports Ground.
Saints FC face Far East SC and Sky Kings FC battle Tabatinga FC.
